Investigate the Added Value of Kubernetes (Docker) for the SDIL platform

Description

Within the Smart Data Innovation Lab we are using virtual machines for scalable deployment and puppet for configuration of services. However, we are expecting a shift to container based solution from our software providers.

We are using the docker integration of Red Hat Satellite, but this might not be sufficient for the management of more complex container environments. The objective of this project is to investigate the Kubernetes container orchestration, its interoperability with our current management system, and the added value

Tasks

  • research and deploy Kubernetes
  • investigate the interoperability of Kubernetes and RH Satellite
  • assess the added value in regard to our established workflow

  • linux server systems
  • basic understanding of virtual machines and containers
