Worker Node

From Gridkaschool

A worker node is part of the local resource management system (batch system). The jobs submitted to the batch system are scheduled by the batch system server and assigned to the available worker nodes in the system. Hence, a worker node contains usually a piece of batch system software. This software can be understood as a small agent that monitors the worker node/ job state and reports to the batch system server. Additionally to the batch system software, gLite software is required on the worker nodes. This software offers e.g. command line tools for staging of data and information system queries.

In this workshop we use Scientific Linux 5.x (64Bit) as operating system for the worker nodes, but gLite also supports Debian 4 (64Bit).
