The EU FP7 Scape project (http://www.scape-project.eu/) did a lot of work for the massive conversion of data stored in archives. Using PIG as description language the TOMAR environment of SCAPE allows construction of workflows needed in a large scale archive environment. The work for this theses comprses the implementation of a adaptable and scalable format conversion service using the hadoop cluster at SCC.
