What is gLite?

GLite.jpg

gLite is a grid flavor widely used in EGEE and D-Grid. gLite provides several services for grid usage such as Computing Element, Storage Element and LCG File Catalog. A central element is the information system used as a discovery service. All available grid services and their status are listed in this system.

Where to get it?

The middleware releases and a lot of other information on gLite can be found at http://glite.web.cern.ch/glite/default.asp. You will see different releases available: gLite 3.0, gLite 3.1 and gLite 3.2. The 3.0 release is no longer supported and should not run anymore.

Currently the release change from 3.1 to 3.2 is prepared including a change of the underlying OS. Where gLite 3.0 ran on Scientific Linux CERN 3 (32 Bit) and gLite 3.1 on Scientific Linux 4 (32 Bit and few on 64 Bit) the new release 3.2 runs on 64 Bit SL5 or Debian 4 systems. For now only few services are available for 3.2.

The configuration in gLite can be done via YAIM. YAIM
